What is LVs Ride?

LVs Ride is an epic cross country bike ride from Astoria, OR to Long Branch, NJ from June 14, 2011 to August 14, 2011.

We are a relay of people each doing our part to raise funds to end poverty in our nation’s underserved communities.

We are doing this the only way we know how: TOGETHER

We are the Lasallian Family coming together to continue the mission of Saint La Salle to educate the poor and working class. We are faculty and staff of Lasallian Schools and Ministries, students and clients, Lasallian Volunteers and Alumni, Christian Brothers, and friends and family who have been impacted by the Lasallian mission. We are all the Lasallian Family.

We are looking for people from all over who are ready and willing to take up the challenge to fight poverty and spend part of their summer on an incredible journey cross country by bicycle.

This is more than just a bike ride. LVs Ride is an adventure of service and faith, relationship building and fundraising. We are inviting communities, schools, institutions, churches and individuals to join in our movement to help neighbors in need. Inspired by the success of the 2001 Spoke ‘n Word tour — a 2001 ride in which a few ambitious Lasallian Volunteers Alumni, Christian Brothers and friends biked cross country to raise money for literacy — and the work of the Lasallian Volunteers in underserved communities around the country, LVs Ride was born as a way to invite more people into the Lasallian ministry to the poor. Following in the steps of the 2001 tour and with the guidance and participation of the original ride founders, Br. Ed Phelan, along with Mike and Karin Anderer-McClelland, we are continuing the tradition started 10 years ago. The Spoke 'n Word tour resulted in over $100,000 donated to the various San Miguel Schools across the country to promote literacy efforts in the schools.
